This environment depicts a traditional Korean village in the aftermath of war — a place scarred by destruction yet filled with quiet resilience. Inspired by hanok architecture and the cultural spirit of post-war Korea, the scene captures the fragile beauty that remains after chaos. The broken walls, scattered debris, and dust-filled air tell a story of loss, while the warm light and flickering lanterns symbolize renewal and hope.
Built entirely in Unreal Engine 5, the project makes full use of Lumen, volumetric fog, and real-time lighting to create cinematic depth and realism. Packed level actors and level instances are used to create a scalable workflow, and PBR materials, vertex painting, and Runtime Vitrual Textures give authenticity to the stone, wood, and soil. Subtle atmospheric effects — drifting dust, animated lanterns, and distant crows — bring life to the silence and enhance the storytelling.
The piece is a reflection on resilience and rebirth. The rising sun over the ancient temple becomes a metaphor for hope, as the people who once lived here begin to rebuild. Drawing inspiration from Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us, this work aims to merge historical authenticity with a deeply emotional, cinematic experience.
