These two locations represent some of the more industrial environments in Mafia: The Old Country: Collezolfo and Fiumasa, also known as the tannery. Together, they highlight the wide environmental range present in the game—from vast open fields and coastal cliffs to dense towns shaped by industrial activity.
The core challenge behind these spaces was what we referred to as “spectacle events”—a series of highly choreographed sequences combining large-scale visuals and complex gameplay. These included car and on-foot chases, explosions, and tightly staged combat encounters, all of which required the environments to support both visual impact and gameplay clarity at every moment.
I had the opportunity to work on these locations as Lead Environment Artist, collaborating closely with James and Pete as mission drivers to ensure the environments aligned with the pacing and intensity of these sequences, while maintaining a cohesive visual language.
