Tonnara stands out as one of the most atmospheric coastal locations in Mafia: The Old Country. Inspired by traditional Sicilian tuna-processing sites, the environment blends natural beauty with a strong sense of harsh, industrial purpose—where sea, rock, and man-made structures coexist in a very raw and grounded way.
As a mission space, Tonnara typically leans into contrast: wide-open coastal views versus tight, claustrophobic interiors; calm, almost serene exteriors disrupted by sudden bursts of tension and action. These kinds of locations are especially effective for pacing, allowing moments of anticipation to build before transitioning into more intense gameplay sequences.
I worked on this location as a Lead Environment Artist during my time on Hangar 13, working closely with James as the main mission driver.
